Portland Loo

About 20 years ago, the community voiced a need for a public bathroom in Irving Square Park. That parks department has had us on the list for decades, waiting for a bathroom with a small enough footprint and price tag.

Recently, the city has been looking for locations for a pilot program, one in each borough, to test a new prefabricated bathroom, nicknamed the Portland Loo.

This bathroom is a single stall unit. It has open air vents at the top and bottom of the unit, and would follow the open/close hours of the park (sunrise to sunset).

The cost of the unit would be covered by the City and not take away from any other projects this group would try to advocate for.

The city is ready to monitor the unit to see to its success, including upgrading the included locks.
